Low output

The Sierra de Cameros is and continues to be an area with a tradition in raising and keeping goats. Due to its harsh climate, low rainfall and extreme temperatures, both in summer and winter, the local goat farmers are forced to go down into the valleys, creating a small scale movement between the valleys and the highlands.

In La Rioja, there are eleven goat farms which are registered with the D.O.P. Queso Camerano, representing around 5,000 head of milk-producing she-goats which provide 960,000 litres of milk per year (Data: 2015).

Currently, the production of Camerano Cheese is 30,000 kg. per year, making it a very small Designation of Origin.
